Fur & Feather Annual Christmas Match

In mid December every year the Society organises a friendly match for Members, followed by a meal and friendly get together in pub/restaurant shortly afterwards.

Being a light hearted social affair, there are several prizes up for grabs and a raffle, and a chance to catch up with old fishing friends and make new ones too! The match and the post-match festivities are open to all members and the match fees, prizes and the meal are all funded by the Society.

Places are always limited, either because of the number of pegs available for the match, or because of the number places available in the pub/restaurant, or both. Because of this, places are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, once applications to take part are accepted.

Previous Matches

The 2019 Fur and Feather took place on Saturday 14th December at Darenth Fishing Complex, Darenth Hill, Darent, Kent, DA2 7QY.

Afterwards there was a Christmas lunch, prizes, raffle, banter, ribaldry and raucous behaviour at the Questor Café, Questor Industrial Estate, Dartford,Kent. DA1 1JS.

The 2018 Fur & Feather took place on Sunday 9th December at Stones Fishery Match Lake, Sheerness.

A social gathering including a meal, prize giving and social get together which took place on Tuesday 15th January (2019) at The Pocock Public House in Gravesend DA12 1AH.

The 2017 Fur & Feather match took place on Sunday 10th December 2017 at Stones Fishery Match Lake, Sheerness.

Fishing took take place between 9am and 1pm. It was a cold winters day with snow showers to begin with, following by lots of rain, with an occasional stiff breeze (see video). With conditions far from ideal, some of the 25 or so anglers actually managed to catch. Results are shown below.

Following the match there was a prize presentation, raffle and sit down Christmas dinner held at the nearby Five Bridges Pub.

In 2015 and 2016 the Fur and Feather also took place at Monk Lakes, followed by Christmas lunch, prize giving and a raffle at Lashings in Maidstone. Again a good time was had by all.

Fur & Feather ~ 2021

On Saturday 11th of December 15 anglers fished the TWAPS Fur and Feather at Chart Fishery near Langley, Maidstone.

The weather was extremely kind to us and the fishing was too with some good winter weights recorded for December.

A big congratulations to Dave Dell who won first prize with 66lb 14oz of carp, with Andy Abbott in second place with 55lb 15oz and Kevin Edwards in third with 54lb 8oz.

I would like to personally congratulate Broderick Bassett who fished his first match for years who narrowly missed out on the top three on the day and came forth with 52lb 7oz.

I would also like to thank all anglers who came to the Fur and Feather this year and fished, and I would like to see as many new faces next year at the event.

I will start taking names in October 2022 for next year so look out for Facebook posts in the Offical TWAPS Group.
