TWAPS Open Evening – A Presentation on Pike and Predator Fishing

Open Evening: Pike and Predator Fishing

Guest Speakers: Gary Peet – Owner, The Tackle Box (Dartford), John Synnuck – Pike Anglers Club UK (PAC) and Mark Barnett – MB Rob Building. All three have vast experience of predator fishing, particularly pike fishing.

Date: 16th April 2024

Venue: The Inn on the Lake Hotel

Approximately 30 people attended the presentation on Inside Fisheries and Fishery Management, given by the guest speakers Gary, John and Mark.

After Gary Bushell, Head Bailiff and event organiser, introduced the presenters, John started the proceedings by describing his long and distinguished predator fishing career having caught his first pike way back in 1961!

Gary then took over and talked at length on various methods, rigs, baits and techniques used in modern pike fishing, with the emphasis being on fish welfare at all times.

As this was an informal presentation, during this time, questions were invited from the audience. The session evolved into a very informative and useful question and answer session with all three presenters all contributing and sharing their valuable experience, and providing several tips, particularly on live baiting (which at the time of writing is prohibited on all TWAPS waters) and dead baiting.

After the presentation and informal question and answer session a raffle took place with several prizes being won.

Then followed an auction for a day’s boat pike fishing with Mark – with all the equipment and bait supplied. The winning bid was £100. A special thanks goes to Mark who will be generously providing the fishing day free of charge and donating the £100 bid to the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

The presentations were well received and very informative, and were greatly received by all. After approximately two hours the evening ended with a hearty round of applause and a vote of thanks to the presenters and to Gary (Bushell) for organising the event.
