Shorne Woods Country Park Activity Day

Shorne Woods Country Park organised an activity day for families, particularly children and young people, to have a taster session for a variety of activities within the park on 2nd August 2024.

One of the activities included fishing and the local fishing club – Thameside Works Angling and Preservation Society (TWAPS) – was asked to get involved and run this particular activity.

Therefore, a few of the club’s dedicated anglers (or fishermen) volunteered their services for the day.

Despite it being very warm and very humid as well as having to survive insect bites, all the volunteers were kept busy guiding a steady stream of participants in the noble art of fishing and nearly all of them caught! Photos were duly taken and memories were made, making the whole day a success, at least as far as fishing was concerned.

After the day TWAPS Chairmain, Dennis Hammond, expressed his thanks to this motley crew of fishing “experts” for their efforts and reported that he had received lots of positive comments from the public taking part, with many asking “when is the next one?”

From left to right, the TWAPS volunteers in the photo were Neil Turnnidge, Phil Townsend, Ian Collier, Roger Buck, Alan Daly and Dave Bishop.
